Departments

Student Life comprises 11 departments that provide student advocacy, advising, and education. Student Life units work interdependently with departments across campus to help support students in the accomplishment of their academic goals and provide enriching educational opportunities that complement the degree curriculum.

CARE: CAMPUS ADVOCACY, RESOURCES & EDUCATION

CARE provides confidential advocacy and support to students, staff and faculty impacted by sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking. CARE also works collaboratively with students, faculty and staff to educate the campus community about the vital role that each of us has in ending interpersonal violence at UCSB.

Primary Services

  • Advocacy and accompaniment of survivors for: medical needs, housing, safety concerns, reporting options, academic requests, emotional and healing support, and financial concerns.
  • Primary prevention programming to stop violence before it begins in the UCSB community.
  • Ensuring timely, appropriate, and trauma-sensitive response to disclosures of violence from all campus and community members.

CAREER SERVICES

The mission of Career Services is to educate and empower all students and recent graduates to prepare for and pursue success. We inspire students to explore and gain knowledge of their occupational goals, to attain competencies and relevant experiences, to develop professional relationships, and to apply their education and unique attributes to address the needs and challenges of the world through their work.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMS AND PARENT SERVICES

Orientation Programs and Parent Services designs and implements comprehensive student and parent programs that introduce educational, social, and personal resources to facilitate the success of new students. We focus on innovation, collaborate with UCSB departments, and develop skilled and confident Orientation leaders in order to meet the changing needs of our diverse community.

Primary Services

  • Two-day Freshmen Orientation sessions.
  • Transfer student online module and one-day Transfer Orientation sessions.
  • Selection and training of approximately 30 undergraduate student leaders.
  • Administrative oversight of Gaucho FYI (in-person mandatory educational program for all incoming students).
  • Supervision of the student staff and coordination of facilities management for the Student Resource Building (SRB).

OFFICE OF STUDENT LIFE (OSL)

OSL is home to registered campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, and student leadership development programs. We also host a variety of special initiatives including After Dark Late Nite Social Programs, CommUnity Grants, and Student-Initiated Outreach Programs. 

Primary Services

  • Helping students to find out how to get involved, deepen their sense of belonging at UCSB, and build practical skills for their lives and careers. 
  • Advising and support for leaders of 500+ registered campus organizations.
  • Individual and group leadership development programming. 
  • Recognition and advising of social fraternities and sororities and their governing councils.
