Summary: Native American traditional knowledge includes knowledge of astronomy, especially the Earth’s relationship to the sun, moon, and stars. With traditional knowledge of the sun, moon, and stars, Native Americans could keep track of time both throughout the day, like a clock, and throughout the year, like a calendar. Chumash people have lived in The Central Coast Region of California for at least 10,000 years, and in these 10,000 years they studied the sun, moon, and stars, and left rocking paintings and tree carvings that symbolize this region’s position in the universe. One of these tree carvings is found in the Northern part of the Chumash territory, North of San Luis Obispo.

It’s a contest and I’m gonna win.
